London Rain

Imagine this: I've been here for over two years and I've never been in a house I actually like. The style here is quite unique. I miss the open spaces from home; miss the backyards; miss the windows. The girls and I couldn't help but comments on the spectacular windows that helped to personify Amsterdam. They were everywhere and they reminded me of what houses should look like. Found this beauty and realized they DO beautiful homes here...you just have to search for them.
Lately I feel as though I'm treading water professionally. That sounds so severe and in reality, life's not really all that tough here, but it feels as though I'm just making due...not ahead, not behind...just in limbo. Ugh, limbo is the worst. It leads me to think I've got nothing new and exciting to say or think; I've just got work on my mind all the time. A drag, non? It's not a rut, it's just consuming. That's perhaps the best way to describe it. Anyway, I've got a lovely weekend planned with two smashing gals and one handsome fella, as soon as I get all this work out of the way tonight. What a Friday: laundry, planning, in bed early. I'm a non-stop thrill ride tonight, I tell you.

To Do

Today is an easy day at school. Good thing because we're off to see King Charles tonight (I assure you this clip is not a joke, contrary to what one handsome fella thought) at Koko in London and tomorrow is a five-period day. Yowza.
In keeping with the theme of all things lovey and dovey (my mood de jour lately), I hope you're having a swell week and have something lovely planned for the weekend. I'll be hunkered down after work on Saturday...

Amsterdam: As Good as it Gets
It wasn't just the canals that took our breath away...it was the beauty of the architecture, the bikes leaned up on just about any surface, the families (whole families!) traveling on one bicycle. It was the food and the drink; the sunshine and the atmosphere. Twas a beautiful place.
Amsterdam, Part I
The Dam was gorge. I suppose what hit us first (at seven thirty am, no less) was the beauty of the straight, organized fields. It looked like a clean place, Holland did.
Brunette?

I'm off task, I know. But something about Penelope Cruz's hair makes me yearn for those brunette days. Yearn. It's such a throwback to a time when washing hair was so not-cool (love), even though she's not from that time.
And on a completely unrelated note, we found out today that Leanne and Mark are indeed having themselves an Emily and not a boy. I'm so thrilled for them :) Much love from across the pond, Jacksons xxx

The Dam

We just got back from Amsterdam. The trip home from the airport took a whopping three hours, so I'm just about knackered. Still have some work left to do tonight, so I best get to it before too long. I think it's just turned 9, however, and I might just have to hit the sack. Exciting news about bonfires and forested areas during the October half term. Gotta love a good cozy getaway.

Feelings awash

The seasons are finally changing here in England. This morning I got the sweetest email and couldn't help but take in my surroundings: music was playing softly, the sun was shining brightly (as another teacher said to me later, "Another beautiful day!"), and even my toast tasted delicious.
The sentiment of the message was that we need to seize the day, enjoy each one, and recognize that each day holds promise. As a matter of fact, I used this sentiment with my kiddies today. I've adopted a new habit: at the end of every class, as the children stand behind their tucked-in chairs, I give them a tidbit of information that I hope aids them in being better humans. I've used, "It might not always feel this way, but your families love you. Treat them with respect" and, "your body is not only a temple, but you only get one. Treat it well." Today was, "Weekends are great. They're time for us to rest and recooperate. But every single day is a chance to be your best self. Have a great day."

Call Me Maybe - for Choir and Orchestra
Oh my god. I didn't think my day could get any better. Frank just asked, "are you tearing up?" No. I'm crying.

You might not know how much I love love love Project Runway, but I do. Guilty pleasure? No. It's good stuff.
Anyway, Tim Gunn just said something that MIGHT change my life,
"Channel your inner winner."
Stop. I'm in love.
