an alpaca from http://writinggrandmasbook.files.wordpress.com
I was shocked to find a package at my door upon returning from grocery shopping last night. It was the box I was expecting from my mom, but I had no idea what to find inside.
The most darling pair of slippers awaited me. I don't recall telling her how god-awful cold my house gets sometimes and how good a pair of slippers would feel on my feet. As you can imagine, Korean slippers are far too small to be comfortable. They're made of alpaca wool (is it called wool?) and they're amazing. Soooo warm. I'm sooo happy right now.
Little does my mother know that I've had my eye on this alpaca farm (as entirely uncool as that sounds) since I attended my first Women Who Excel meeting about five or six years ago. I met my favourite tutoring clients there that night and worked with her children for three years. That was a very good night: I remember it fondly. Anyway, Helga Hillyard was there that night (yes, I remember this) and she had the most amazing slippers and mittens and shoes for wearing around the house (think Uggs before there were Uggs). Check her out... http://greenacresalpacastore.com/
I failed to mention upon first blogging about it that my mom also included the cutest (note: not cheesey!) ornament with my NAME on it. We could never find things with my name on them when I was a kid. This snow globe tree ornament (or ficus ornament, in Korea) was just tucked in my slipper...super cute.
Thanks a million, Mom.
