On Top of Flinter Gill, last day in the Lakes

On our last full day in the Lakes, we wandered up Flinter Gill, after a brief conversation about the location of the best view with a hearing-impaired local.  Though we were keen to get up to the top and see the vista, isn't it always the case that the getting-there is nearly more spectacular?  What a gorgeous place, ripe with the promise of spring.

What a delightful few days, out of the city, into the country.  That fresh air was at times more than I could have asked for.

A Day in a Pub

After a long run in the countryside (we went on our own this time: Steven much preferring the windy, muddy paths that eventually threw his back out and I, the more serene [read: clean] roads),

we convened at the local pub and stayed most of the day.  These small English towns certainly do know how to make you feel welcome…

Dent, Cumbria, The Lakes

It's half term in England.  Thank god.  Though I'm working on Friday, I'm off now and it's the sweetest thing.  I met Steven in Notting Hill on Sunday after work and we jumped in the car, stood still in traffic through the city for nearly two hours, then headed north.  We arrived in Dent long after the sun had gone down, so we headed for some pints at the local, where conversation ceased and all heads turned our way upon us walking in.  I think the population is about 20 here, so it stands to reason that we stand out like a pair of sore thumbs.  No matter, however: we took the car, went to a cheese factory, saw some countryside, and finally took the zoom lens out for a spin.  Here's what we saw yesterday...
