The Mother Hen and I headed to Christie's Mill in Port Severn for some R & R last weekend. Some highlights...

This mini-break brought to you by Birkenstock
Dinner: night one.
Love.
Day Two: the run at, "SEVEN! It's SEVEN!" (that's how my mother woke me up on Saturday morning. Argh.)
Bring it
The building of what can only be described as a longhouse. Super cool.
The locks at Port Severn.
Though it appears that this is the only shirt I brought to Canada, I assure you I brought more. I just really like this one. That said, this is the "sun-kissed" picture my mother was quite keen to take. Love.
We headed to the dock for some wine and some northern sites before dinner.
Paper cup wine? Don't mind if I do.
Sheer hilarity for a good hour: this boat's bilge pump emptying. Look it up.
That's a lot of prime rib for a vegetarian. Oh dear.
Then my mother told me about the mashed potatoes hidden (hidden!) under the meat. Let's just say I went looking.
The next morning, we headed out to explore the north: the beaches, the roads, the roadside attractions. It was amazing to see this side of Ontario. Deep breaths...clean air...life is good.
Balm Beach
Jackson Park (at Ossassone Beach, approximately)
Cutest sign ever...
We popped into LOL Cafe in Cookstown for a coffee break and wound up staying for lunch. It was lovely: manned by three generations of women making homemade soup and wraps with hummous. Nice northern treat, says I.
We dashed in here for some butter tarts, mainly because the neon sign outside read,
"BUTTER TARTS
YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO"
Well, when you put it like that...
YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO"
Ah, northern Ontario, you do it to me every time.
