I took the bus home, dejected, thinking I would just go back to Starbucks and get the $35 one there. At least I would know it was good. Out of the corner of my eye though, I spotted the restaurant supply store across the street from my house. Are you kidding? Of course they had one, and for only $12. So I'm all set now, only after four hours of searching. Korea is so strange sometimes: some of the simpliest things that you could pick up so quickly at the Bay, Williams Sonoma, Starbucks, are impossible to find here (like real coffee, the non-instant kind). C'est la vie. I had my first two cups this morning, and even though the mix was a bit off (you know how I love that potent, thick, bitter concoction), it was divine.
I'm also on the lookout for all things Sex and the City. I want to have a Korean party for the new movie, due out in May 2010. Her is a little glimpse of Carrie and Big, fresh from filming in NYC. Note that she is wearing a wedding ring (you can hardly see it, but it is there, trust me). Also note: this movie really doesn't matter that much to me...it just reminds me of meeting with the girls, us all going to see it, drinking wine from teeny tiny cartons and being fabulous. Leanne and I went for the first screening only after drinking sangria at noon. I definately miss my friends when things like this pop up, so it is only natural for me to get excited about them. Anyway, here's the pic...enjoy.
Now on a completely unrelated topic: I went to church last weekend with my man. It was a sermon delivered by a Born Again Christian pastor (is that the right word?) and it was about two hours long. Definately too much for me, but the BAC's believe that you have to really know the bible to know God. So I went for dinner with this gal named Ace (loving that name) from the church. She's Korean but has mastered most of the idiosyncrasies of the English language and is a joy to talk to. She brought her roommate along and we talked about the bible at dinner, among other things. I have 14 years of bible study behind me: I know the Good Book pretty well and can hold my own in a coversation about it.
So now I want to express how grateful I am that I went to Catholic school. I've said this all along and have fought tooth and nail against those who went to public school about how our school system is superior. I could talk all day about the differences I have seen personally between the systems (Catholic school kids are more respectful to superiors, they differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate behaviour better, they feel an innate connection to community more so than public school kids), but suffice it to say that the Catholic system is where I want to be when I come home to teach. Anyway, religion is pretty personal and I don't want to get into it too deeply, but I'm happy to report that I'm keeping my own religion, not adopting a new one. How ingenious that we were taught the Bible in school: do you know how many great pieces of literature, songs, and movies are based on bible stories (probably not SATC, but that's okay)? I'm happy that I got to know this piece of history as well as I did, without any intrusion on my personal life (like, I didn't have to go to bible school on Sundays). So good job, parents of mine, for sending me to the right place. I appreciate it.

As for the weekend, my plan is to attend a jimjilbang called the Dragon Hill Spa. Oh, jimjilbang means Korean bath house or sauna. Check it out: http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_6.jsp?cid=261344. Just think: all of that for about $10! Amazing. Sometimes Korea wows me with it's luxury. So much to blog on after that visit: I can't wait. Have a great Friday, everyone...love you and miss you!
