My mom lives outside of the city, along the water's edge, just far enough from the hustle and bustle that is Toronto. Sometimes when I need a chuckle, I picture her (well, both my parents work in this scenario to generate a good laugh) in the heart of Seoul battling the (literally) hundreds of thousands of human beings all attempting to get somewhere at around 6 pm. It's a really funny visual image I can create when I need to ;)
The Mother Hen wrote this account of her latest trip into the Big City.
“I’m a big girl now” heads into Toronto on the 7:13 GO train. Piece of cake. Nice quiet ride in plenty of time to get to the conference (which was at The Old Mill-the place Erika and Charlie got married).
Got to Union and now am trying to keep my had on straight as I walk through throngs of commuters to get to the Yonge subway. Having bifocals makes it kinda crazy going up and down stairs so needless to say, I am usually looking down.
Got a seat on the subway. Stop at Bloor to change to the Bloor Danforth to go to the Old Mill Station. Now there are millions of people (she doesn't know from millions of people...)
...and security guards shouting, "walk up the escalator!"
OH MY.I live such a sheltered life in suburbia.
On the way back from the convention I got lost (my poor mother). Then I saw a young man who tried to explain where to go and well, you know that doesn’t work so he actually walked with me to the subway platform.
Angels come in many shapes.
(and gentlemen do still exist)
I got to teach in the English Zone today. It was amazing. I used the Smart Board, moved freely around the class between the desks...I was having a great time. Apparently now My Korean Mum can use the room, so I'll teach in there for six periods every other week. Hey, it's something ;)
