My Korean Family is Growing

My Man returned from paternity leave on Friday. He and his wife welcomed their first child, a son (destined to be named Alexander, as I keep advising him) on October 7. After a whopping three days off, I thought he might splurge and call in sick on Friday, but true to his word, there he was, happy as a clam (and armed with rice cakes in celebration). Apparently this is the first time a man has been granted pat leave at the school. I'm glad ole SK is coming around (eye roll).

I was so thrilled for him and so moved by his ear-to-ear grin that I totally started to cry: what a loser. He made some entirely true comment about how when I have kids I'll cry for their whole lives. Undoubtedly, brother. Anyway, everyone's home now and the kid is just adorable. I wonder if he'll give me a picture to post?

Then Mrs. LIM (not Mrs. Yim, as I have been calling her for three months. Boy, do I feel like a heel) invited me over to her house for lunch today. Though the bus ride from my place to hers was only supposed to be 40 minutes long, I took the loooong road there. I got on the right bus but I felt I was going in the wrong direction...so I got off. Then I waited for 35 minutes for the bus going the opposite way. I got on this bus and took it to the end of the route. I was still not there. So I crossed the street, travelled a half hour back to where I started from two hours earlier, and finally was on route to her place.

She of course was waiting for me just as soon as I got off the bus. She said the last time she waited there was when her youngest son was studying abroad during high school. He would come home for winter and summer vacation and she'd be standing there, ready to embarass him at the bus stop. Boy, was I glad to see her! Her son was there for lunch as well (nothing like being two hours late for lunch when not one, but two people are waiting on you. Groan). He's a really nice guy and offered to take me to Club Volume. I've wanted to go there since I got here...quite a few DJs on past bills that I recognize fondly from the Old Life. That should be fun.

I'm having some wine now...a quick lunch in Korea always means the passing of about 6 hours of the day. I'm sleepy now.
