So there I am in all my costumed glory. I hand-painted the butterfly wings (the back decals are much different: darker) and taped Baskin Robbins spoons to my black headband for antenna. I loved it! It was still raining when we walked over to the party, but we survived. I spent the start of the evening with Tiffany, a new friend. How nice to just sit and talk about things without a huge crowd, huge expenditure, or huge need to discuss things that revolve around beer pong and how "awesome" stupid things are. I had a great time.
The party was a typical Korean house party: the music was quiet, drinks were copious, and the police showed up halfway through. But let's talk about Carolyn's Amy Winehouse costume...
How great is THAT? Unlike at Katie's house though, Everett had no seating, so we had to stand and chat...I like sitting. We went to Happidus (scene of so many sad moments this weekend), where my wings broke immediately and I lost my camera. I'm still hoping the camera will show up...who would take it? Argh. I'll have to rely on others for the time being and keeping putting "the camera will be returned to me" into the universe to ensure its safe homecoming.Dan is leaving, as I've mentioned previously, tomorrow. And in true "let's celebrate my last weekend here" style, he passed out under the pool table at the bar. In my efforts to ensure he wasn't going to die, my desire to make my trek to Korea about more than bars and boys was solidified. It was time for something Awesome.
I started the Facebook event, One Awesome Thing, in a real effort to start doing at least One Awesome Thing every month. Korea has as much to offer as the next major city plus all the rich history of a European town...why not get out and see it? When we do everything in such a large, it becomes so easy to just end up at the same bar, with the same people, talking about the same things. I'm tiring of it. So it's time for something different, something planned (because you know how I like to plan), something GREAT. Once we've decided what One Awesome Thing will be for the month, I'll post it and then post pictures. I'm excited!
Time for two pieces of news about my hair. First, I've decided to get a soft wave perm. The Koreans know how to do it quite well and will give me Hollywood hair, so I've been told. I'm going on November 20 after work, so if Nata or Diti have any words of caution, wisdom, or screams of, "NO! Don't do it!", it's best to let me know soon. I trust it'll be gone in a year or so, and a change is nice once in awhile. I can always blow dry it straight again.
Second hair topic: I had a real blonde moment. But my moment has lasted about six months. I thought that when Daylight Savings Time occurred in fall, when the whole of Canada and the US set their clocks back one hour, that we would magically be 12 hours apart, instead of the annoying 13. How shocked was I when my "set to home time" computer registered a 14 hour difference yesterday? Ha-what? I figured it out at long last...and Korea is now officially 14 hours ahead of Toronto time. In case you were wondering.

For the second module in a row, I got perfect on two of my three assignments. I only received an 8/10 on discussion...I thought I discussed enough, thank you. How much can one gal talk? Despite this, I'm thrilled. Apparently I went "above and beyond" on my project. Yeah, I scanned documents; that's totally above and beyond. Actually, I didn't scan them: another teacher at my school did. And My Man organized the whole thing, so I really didn't do anything but turn my head and ask, "Does the school have a scanner?", but I feel like I did something. Something above and beyond. Lovely. My aunt Erika posted some new pics of the inside of her country home. I love old houses...I miss old houses. You can click on the "Can We Talk?" link under Blogs I Heart. And Leanne took and sent about 20 pictures of the inside of her place as well. You may recall that I (barely) helped her and Mark move in just as I was leaving for Korea. Now they're settled and have a little Wilson Dog named Cali. She snapped a few of Cali as well and stuck them in there. Nice. I was missing the inside of houses: the feel of a home. I have a home, but it's awfully small. I'm like Poppa: wherever I lay my hat is my home.
Oh, side note about laundry. I need some suggestions about how to deal with this diddy: it's cold now. And the laundry doesn't dry as well on drying racks in the cold as it did in the heat. In fact, my old Wigamog sweatshirt (the one that takes about an hour and a half to dry in a dryer) didn't fully dry this weekend and smells a bit off (mould?). However do I ensure my clothes dry? I'm stumped. Recall that we don't have a dryer. Here's a suggestion that probaby won't work: taking the sweater to the gym and asking them to throw it in their dryer with a load of towels. I need something better than that.
Lastly, the kids are off for three days of "deep rest". H1N1 has swept virtually every nation (is this how the human race is going to go extinct? My bio teachers at Western always did say our time was up. Seriously) and many Korean schools are letting the kids stay home for a few days to rest up and get better. I hope it works. All kidding aside, Leanne and I are going on a Big Trip soon, and I don't want The Big Thai to be tained with the Big Flu. Plus, people are dying and generally unhealthy: that just won't do.
In preparation for my own exposure, I'm on a two week cleanse. Just thought I would throw that in there for good measure. I'm going easy on myself though: I'm actually going to eat. But I'll be sure to eat mainly fresh food, lots of tofu and brown rice, and limit intake of eggs and other "blocking" protein. No coffee, no alcohol (sigh...at least my teeth will be whiter). For two weeks. I'm exhausted already ;) It's time for something a little better to fuel me. I'm taking tips from Bethanny Frankel's blog: she's a celebrity chef and stars on The Real Housewives of New York (my fave!), so she must be reputable! Eye roll. I'll let you know how it's going and include my running progress as well (usually on cleanses I just want to lie down and sleep for 12 hours a night). I hope it boosts my immune system riiiight up.
