Mangia, Mangia!

Those of you who know me well know that I love the kitchen. I love shopping for the kitchen, outfitting the kitchen, cooking with a new frying pan for the first time in the kitchen. I love to cook, I love the Food Network, I even love talking about cooking (there's not much I won't talk about). Living in Korea has made me so grateful for the abundance of food back home: food that I adore. Though there are many fresh ingredients here that I can make do with, I do miss certain things from home. Namely, herbs and spices (all kinds), cans of tomatoes, shelves upon shelves of pasta, that sweet chili sauce I used to get at Fortinos in the first real isle, Strubbs pickles, Diet Coke, peanut butter, green grapes, Nutella, butter, cheese (oh no, let's not get started on the cheese), apple juice, any old kind of tea you could name, rice chips, and whole wheat bread. To name a few.

I cook here because I have to and because I want to use some local ingredients to make things that I might not make back home (tofu, tofu, and more tofu). I cook here because it makes my pea-sized apartment become home. And I cook here because it reminds me of home.

I found this article and loved it. You might too. I can't stand it when families don't insist on at least Sunday dinner together. It's a tradition I can't wait to have back. In the spirit of all good things about Sunday, "Mangia, mangia!"
