Weekend Plans

To start the weekend off right, the country has university entrance exams for all the third grade high school students, so we were all off today. And since tomorrow they are doing interviews for the new middle schoolers that will be starting come March, I'm off tomorrow as well. Of course Mrs. Lim dropped off some goodies for me yesterday morning: purple potatoes that she said she couldn't stand the sight of, hard boiled organic eggs, and some digestive cookies. You know I love a good Korean care package :)

To celebrate the day off, Matt and I wandered around in the cool fall day and wound up at the theatre. I had suggested a hike, but we ended up sitting for several hours watching this movie. I'm not much for futuristic films, but I did like "The Day After Tomorrow" (a standard on Korean TV), and I quite enjoyed 2012 as well. End of the world, blah blah blah, America saves everyone (eye roll). Anyway, it was worth seeing. And don't you know that Woody Harrelson was in the movie?! He's so attractive, even as a crazy man who lives in Yellowstone Park. It's like I willed him there ;) And I have always hearted John Cusack, so it was a win-win all over. Note: The Time Traveller's Wife is now in Korean theatres...wouldn't you love to see it?

Since the movie was over when it was still light out, it still felt like we had the whole day to enjoy. We headed to Starbucks and I had a Chai Latte. Did you know that soy milk doesn't count as dairy? Love it! I think there's caffeine in the Chai syrup (especially since I'm feeling quite shaky now), but I think the cleanse will allow for a small cheat. It was nice to just sit and talk. Korea was good to me today.

So this weekend, since I have a ton of free time, I'm going to explore the city some. Nothing is planned for One Awesome Thing until next weekend, so I might check out the theatre and scope out some restaurants in the area. I like going into Seoul: it's much more alive than our small city.

One of the teachers in my office asked if she could take me to a palace in Seoul on Friday afternoon when she's done teaching (how bad do I feel that they have to work while I get the day off? Honestly, not that bad!). I of course said yes: I love touring around with Koreans! They know all the best places to scope out and it doesn't hurt that they can speak the language...I don't feel so foreign with them. Here's a pic of the City Hall area in Seoul (where we're headed) at night. This is the same place where that concert was back in the summer where I heard the Phantom of the Opera singers...swoon:

Aside from that, I'm off to yoga tonight. Oh, and I cooked the purple potatoes: they're great! They're not quite as sweet as regular sweet potatoes here, but they sure are good. And I estimate that the colour adds nutrients. Score! I'm listening to John Mayer's live rendition of "Message in a Bottle." He's the best.
Thanks for the music, Laura!
Oh, I don't think I mentioned this little diddy: I received my E-ticket yesterday! Big Thai, here we come! Leanne's so on the ball: she's got the trip planned out already. I sent her itinerary to Nathan, our resident Thai expert, and he sent us back this incredibly extensive email back about what he thinks we should do. Finally, I sent the whole kit and caboodle to Carolyn for her opinion. Her and her husband, Dave went a little while ago. She says it was her favourite vacay to date (better than Italy, Carolyn?). I'm so excited! In true Alexis form, I'm going to map out our trip on a large Thailand map so I can visualize the adventure. Maybe I'll scan it and post it :)
Good day. I said good day.
