I have no idea what this thing is called, but good gracious, this girl was just amazing, so I had to share it. It reminded me of a piano turned inside out. Again, I was bursting with pride :)
Aaaaand...here's one of my favourite students serving up some tea in the traditional Korean room. I find this a bit strange...here in Korea, they teach "traditional stuff" at school. Though we don't have "traditional Canadian or American things" back home (unless you count hunting, maple syrup tapping, and building a log cabin traditional, learned skills), we certainly do learn proper etiquette like table manners, how to act in front of an elder, and general hygiene.
Oh, here's another thing: they teach the girls what is expected of them by the groom's family when they marry. Creeeeepy. Again though, I learned this from my parents; my grandparents, not from my school. Hmmm...with that being said though, STM was populated pretty much exclusively by Italian kids. Maybe inadvertantly I did pick up a thing or two from my peers. There certainly wasn't a class though on how to throw a bridal shower or a dinner party. Imagine that?!
Matt speculated that since the students spend so much time at school, they have precious little time with parents to learn such lessons at home. Hence the need to learn at school. Regardless, being able to properly serve tea is pretty cool and these girls look so regal while doing it. It was neat to see.
