When the Americans Come to Town

Students from various high schools in Garden Grove, California (near Orange County, I'm told) came to Anyang (their sister city) for a little cultural exploration. They visited Seoul, the DMZ (I've yet to visit this scary part of nearly-North Korea. I'll be sure to post about it when I do!), and various other places before stopping in for the afternoon to visit our little school. Check out the revamped Principal's office. That is ONE green wall :)

Anyhoo, the lady on the left is Black Dress, translating what the Vice Principal had to say. This was pretty adorable..she spent ALL NIGHT writing and practicing her lines in English, but when she got up in front of the group, she was too nervous to speak. She reverted back to old faithful (Korean) and managed to be just as welcoming (not to mention completely cute) as she would have been if she spoke their native language. She's pretty close to My Korean Mother, so, in English or not, she's good in my books. Plus, every time I'm sick, she brings soup over to me herself (with Mrs. Lim). That's devotion.

This is Mrs. Lim's best best friend (I've pictured her before...she's awesome) in a traditional Korean outfit called a hanbok. It's funny how someone can look so beautiful in something still very odd to me. It was almost natural to see her in that, rather than in her regular suits and business attire.

This is one of my students, just drooling over the boys from America.

And who could blame her? They were pretty sweet.

The traditional Korean heart, made this time with two arms.
Cute-uh, as they'd say.
