I wonder...

I wonder…

A friend of mine has recently learned a new approach to communication and shared it with me when we were gabbing on the phone recently. Instead of using the failsafes, "I feel...", or "I think...", she has learned that starting out with, "I wonder..." sounds fabulous.

She used it in a classroom recently. Instead of saying,

"You should really be doing your work"
or
"Hey, KID! Quick d*cking around and start doing what I TOLD you to do an hour ago!"
or
"I think you could be writing right now"
or even,
"GET TO WORK!",

when a kid was clearly not doing what she had instructed him to do, she opted for,

"I wonder if your time would be better spent working on your script."

She said it worked like a charm and it thrilled her to know that what she had learned was now being passed on to her students. Great communication technique, great idea, great sharing.

Thanks, Jamie!!
