Thinking about what comes next, how I'm feeling, what I want...
...and I got a very interesting text message from my friend and co-worker, Eun Zoo Lee (pronounced "un-Ju-lee", which is why she goes by the English name, Julie). She has been off work now for a month due to a car accident, which totally breaks my heart. She was so active and fit...now she's in total agony. Damn cars (she was actually hit by one while walking). This was her message:
There is no hope of recovering soon. Still recuperating from pain. You should pay more attention to your health when the seasons change. Really miss you.
The line, "You should pay more attention to your health when the seasons change" really spoke to me. She's very insightful, so here is how I interpreted her message:
First of all, Koreans believe that there is a greater chance of getting sick when the seasons change from, say, winter to spring, as they are doing now. I'm hesitant about thinking this was her motive though, since there was no way of her knowing I was under the weather. However, I've learned that this is a big deal: I should pay attention to what's happening when the seasons change. More inhalers, more rest, more exercise. Good advice.
What I really think she meant was before the tide changes and things get rocky in life (as in, before you get injured as she did, or before you feel less than happy), take advantage of good health. Since we don't fully appreciate the sun until we've seen a little rain, I think she's telling me to relish in the amazing feeling you get when your body is agreeing with your mind and everything feels great.

Feel it, live it, love it...because nothing lasts forever.
