The Olympics started last night and I watched the Korean coverage of the opening ceremonies this morning. It was such an amazing thing to watch all those famous Canadians passing the torch, carrying flags, and singing songs. Well, except that opera song...that was horrible. I had to mute the tv. I was thinking about how grateful I am that the Olympics are in an English-speaking nation. If they weren't, I wouldn't be able to understand anything, as the Korean voice overs don't offer much for me.
I was a little hesitant about seeing K.D. Lang perform, as I'm not a fan of her voice at all, but she did a great job with Hallelujah...a really great job. Also, I liked seeing Wayne Gretzky out and about. Didn't he just go through a big adultery or game-rigging or insider trading scandal or something? Bah, no one cares...he's still The Great One and he's proud to be Canadian. It was also nice to see Anne Murray carrying the Olympic flag. I just finished with her Christmas album a few months back (cheesy, but mandatory holiday fare) and it was nice that Canada honoured her.
Nathan's mom and long time friend of the family, Barb, is a volunteer at the Olympics. I can't imagine how thrilling it must be to be a part of that. OH! And Alicia reported yesterday that Jesse Lumsden, pride and heartthrob of Hamilton, is now on the Canadian Bobsled Team. When did that happen? I'll have to google him to get more information.
